Title: 1940 Disney Pinocchio Figurine Set
WhatsItWorthToYou.com
Date/Era/Period: 1940
WhatsItWorthToYou.com
Description: These are 5 figurines, 3 to 5 1/2 inches tall, licensed by Walt Disney Productions and manufactured by Multi Products Chicago. I believe your appraiser will be familiar with these figurines, although from my research they do appear to be quite rare. Obviously, my photos will be worth a thousand words, but the figurines include 5 characters from the 1940 Disney movie Pinocchio, including: Pinocchio Geppetto Jiminy Cricket Lampwich Figaro

Condition: I would estimate VG Plus to Fine condition. While there are numerous minor abrasions and chips to the paint and substrate, 97 to 98% of the total surface area is in remarkably good condition. The heartbreak of this set is that four of the figures appear to have been broken and repaired in the past 65 years. Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Geppetto and Lampwick were apparently dropped at one time and broke off at the ankles (Lampwick at the neck). Fortunately, these singular breaks were amazingly clean (I would credit the dense composition of the figurines for that good luck) and were glued back together with an unidentified adhesive. I have included a photo of the two ugliest-looking breaks/repairs (on Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket). Even with these breaks, there are no missing chips or incidental damage to the figurines. The breaks must have happened at least 25 years ago and since their repair the figurines have withstood several carefully packaged moves from state to state. The repairs on Geppetto and Lampwick are almost undetectable without very close scrutiny (you can see the faintest hairline of a crack on Geppetto's ankle in the photos). Overall (as you can see from the photos), the repairs to the figurines detract very little from the overall appeal of this set, though obviously they have an impact on the value (which is parly why I am seeking your appraisal).

Origin: These were a gift from my grandparents to my mother, who is now 72 years old. They have been in my family for 65 years.

Appraiser Comments: Hello and thank you for your great submission! This set is a composition (like wood) produced set. Generally you can find these items for a little bit more when not repaired but I have personally seen them sell for $85 per piece unbroken but with more wear to the surface. Congratulations!
